Be Just, Kind, and Humble by Joey Capuano |
This passage is so meaningful for all of us right now. I am amazed at how God speaks to us in the present through his word in scripture; even though it was written thousands of years ago. Scripture is the living Word that always interweaves into our lives, teaching us. If we look at everything that is going on in the world right now, especially in our country and in many of our cities, we need so much more justice, kindness, and humility towards all people.
This is a calling that transcends all boundaries and differences - be they ethnic, racial, linguistic, Religious, and yes, political. How can we move forward? With justice. Our country is dedicated to the very important stance of "liberty and justice for all." God calls us to do the same as members of his family, where ALL people are "citizens." How can we achieve justice for all? With kindness. Being kind is something that we learn the importance of from our guardians, and we continue to teach our children and youth of today the importance of kindness. But, if we are being honest, we fall short of this manner of treating others so often. We are all imperfect, but that doesn't mean that we can forgo kindness to get our way. The final thing that God is calling us to do in this passage is to be humble. But, in a world, and especially in a Western society, where competition is key, as is always trying to gain the next promotion or higher status, being humble is sometimes seen as a weakness. However, what would happen if we all considered being humble the truest form of strength and success? How much better of a world we would have!
