Hebrews 13:1-8, 15-16
13 Let mutual affection continue. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. 3 Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them, those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured. 4 Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he himself has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” 6 So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” 7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
15 Through him, then, let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. |
Love for All -- Continued by Joey Capuano |
Good morning, family!
As we enter this week together, we continue in our study of Hebrews in the Bible. In it, the reminder of mutual love for everyone on Earth is the most important call. It is also challenging; but, be comforted, Christ is our most perfect, loyal, and LOVING guide!
I was inspired by Karen Chamblee’s prayer request from Sunday’s Service: Let us have peace and a removal of our troops from our streets. In the innards of our country, we are facing so much divisiveness and temptation for hatred from many sides. This prayer request was not saying anything against our troops or anything disrespectful towards them or any political group. Anybody who knows Karen knows that would be the complete opposite of her heart. Rather, it was a plea to remove the feeling of needing that heightened amount of “security,” aimed at removing crime from cities that are for the vast majority peaceful areas. Which is easier? To have love in cities where the feelings of peace, welcome, and happiness abound, or to have love in areas of intense military presence with weapons clearly visible for people of all ages, from babies to elders? The answer is pretty easy. Can we work toward the first of these in order to achieve TRUE LOVE?
Absolutely, we can! Yes, times have been changing since the beginning of this world that God has given us. But, as Hebrews reminds us, there is somebody who is always constant. From verse 8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Even in the grips of any pain or hardship that we face, Christ is our firm foundation. Thank you for preaching on that topic last Sunday, Pastor Mary! And, thank you Karen, for reminding us of the truth in it from your prayer!
He calls us to Love. From Verses 1-3, we are called to show that love to everyone that we meet, at all times. Absolutely, that’s a challenge. But, take heart: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” (Verse 6.)
Yours, in Christ’s Love, Joey
Let’s always share that love with every single person and living thing whom we meet!
