Announcements from Pastor Mary

Hello everyone!

Another busy weekend in service to God, caring for each other, and being inspired.  Here's what's going on....

We will remember Doris MacDaniel on Saturday.  Her memorial service is at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary.  There is a luncheon to follow in the Fellowship Hall.  Thank you to everyone who has put so much love into this service already.  Doris gave a lot to our church, let's share that love with her family.

MercyMe, Toby Mac, Matthew West:  On Saturday evening, the youth and members of the church are headed over to Charlottesville to see Christian bands Toby Mac, Mercy Me, and Matthew West.  It should be a GREAT night of song and inspiration.  We have had 2 tickets come available.  If you are interested, contact Courtney Leach ASAP.

It's World Commuion Sunday!  Sunday is the first Sunday in October and we will celebrate Holy Communion together, remembering that Christians all around the world share our faith and will be sharing Holy Communion!  People of many languages, many looks, many cultures and customs share our One God, have faith in Jesus Christ, and are inspired by the Holy Spirit.

In other news... Thank you to everyone who came out for the Men's Prayer Breakfast last Saturday!  We had a good breakfast, great fellowship and learned a few things about Camp Overlook!

The Choir is starting practice on our Christmas Cantata, "All is Well."  We would LOVE to have additional singers in all parts!  If you are interested, see Joan Kenney!

And... a reminder... that we are a part of a really wonderful, active, faithful Christian community here at BUMC!  We care about each other and blessings abound, thanks be to God!  Let's show it!  Let's say it!  Let's live it!

See the rest of our E-Blast for what's coming up to praise God and bless those around us.

Blessings, Pastor Mary

Please continue to share the good news that our worship time is at 10 AM.

Keep inviting friends & neighbors to Sunday School at 9 AM & joyful, meaningful worship at 10 AM!

Prayer List

The Prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. ~ James 5: 15-16

Galen Dellinger is turning 100 on Oct 13!

Let’s shower him with cards & show him our love. His address is: 216 W. College St, Bridgewater, VA  22812. We will recognize him during the worship service on Oct 12, if you’d like to bring a card, picture, or share a memory with Galen then.

The annual UWF Salad Supper will be held on October 20 at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. All women in the church are invited to come and bring a salad or other dish to share. It is an evening of good fellowship and good food (and door prizes too.)

Our speaker for the evening will be Jenny Butcher from Isaiah 117 House. They provide a comforting home where children awaiting placement in foster care can stay while child welfare services do the paperwork and find the child a good foster placement. As usual, we will be collecting donations of money and/or gift cards to stores where where they can purchase needed items for the children.

I hope we have a large turnout for such a worthy organization. Please save the date. We hope to see you there!

Trick or Treat for Children's Clothes Closet

Clothes & Supplies Drive on Oct 26th

The Children's Clothes Closet (CCC) is part of Mission Central and a ministry of the Shenandoah River District of the UMC.  Our CCC was recently recognized by the state of Virginia during Diaper Needs Week and in “Tell Me Something Good” on WHSV on Sept 29.

From the WHSV website: "Artie Frederick, the director of the CCC, said the service provides both new & used clothing in good quality to anyone in need, regardless of where someone lives or their income. The CCC provides clothes for children 0 - 18 yrs old.  However, for many of their clients, Frederick said, there is a greater need than just clothing.  Our main response from our clients when they walk in the door, most of them say, ‘Do you have Pampers?’”

Let’s Trick or Treat for kids & support this amazing ministry!
Please bring donations of:

• Children’s clothing & shoes (gently used)
• Pajamas
• Children’s socks & underwear (new)
• Disposable diapers (newborn through toddler)
• Baby blankets, lotion, shampoo, etc.
• Baby equipment (good condition & compliant with current safety regulations.)

Please bring your donations to the church on (or before) October 26th and we will bring them to the CCC.  Items may also be delivered to the CCC at 1704 Smithland Rd in H’burg.

It's Stewardship Time, Again!  A study of the book Rich Church Poor Church will continue this Sunday and Oct 12.  Learn about what it means to be a rich church.  Hint: Money is not the answer.  Please join us on Sunday at 11:15 in the Fellowship Hall!

Save October 19th for Consecration & Laity Sunday!  Sunday, Oct 19th will be our Consecration Sunday & Laity Sunday.  We will have a special worship service at 10 AM followed by a covered dish meal.  Fried chicken & drinks provided, please plan to bring a side, salad, or dessert.

Thank you to the United Women in Faith

THANK YOU! I was very shocked and humbled to be chosen to receive the UWF Mission Service Pin. I am honored to be selected but it has been a team of caring adults that have made the Wing Fellowship successful. Thank you, again!- Rhonda Johnson

Thank you from John Wayland Elementary School
We wanted to let you and your team know just how much we appreciate your church’s contribution of weekend food bags throughout the year, When our students have consistent access to food they are able to concentrate better in class and regulate their emotions a bit more effectively. They come in Monday morning ready to learn. Thank you so much for your continued support! With gratitude—The staff at John Wayland Elementary.

Thank you from Manor Memorial UMC UWF
Thank you for hosting the south district prayer breakfast. The meal was excellent with so many tasty choices! We appreciated meeting our state conference president, Karen. Her message with music and thoughts were so timely, along with Laura’s accompaniment.
Thanks again sisters in Christ.

Thank you from Ann Teter

I was so blessed by the many cards, phone calls, text messages and e-mails during my recent stay in Sentara RMH for cellulitis following melanoma removal. Once I returned home, I was comforted by delicious meals and flowers.  Above all I was touched by the prayers and concern of my Bridgewater UMC church family. Thank you!
Peace and Love,
Ann and Sam

BUMC’s Backpack Ministry is gearing up for another year of service, and we need your help!  We have a dedicated team of volunteers who take turns with weekly tasks that allow us to provide food bags to local students whose access to food on weekends is otherwise scarce.  We are seeking new and eager volunteers to join our team to help shop for food, pack bags, or both!  Training will be provided for anyone interested.  This ministry makes a direct impact on the lives of children in our local schools.  We would love for you to join us in supporting this worthy cause!

This ministry is funded by the generosity of our church members.  If you would like to donate funds to help sustain this outreach to our schools, make checks payable to Bridgewater United Women in Faith with ‘Backpack Ministry’ listed on the memo.  Please reach out to Jessi (jessi.higgs@gmail.com) and Stephanie (sthiggs@live.com) if you have any questions or to join our email list!  Thank you for your consideration.

Time for Operation Christmas Child!

October Collection is Fun Items

Our goal again this year is 100 boxes to include school supplies, hygiene items, and lots of other fun things for children in need. In October, we will be collecting fun supplies. We need:

Toys

Games

Jump ropes

Coloring books

Matchbox cars

Craft Kits

Girls' hair items

Stuffed animals

Water color paint sets

Puzzles

Card games such as UNO, Old Maid, etc.

Playdough or modeling clay

Small Lego-like sets

Small balls

Small dolls

Anything young children would enjoy playing with, but it needs to fit into our OCC shoebox

We have all of the health and hygiene items we need, but we are still short 25 pairs of scissors for school supplies.

We appreciate the church’s support for this important project for children!

Thanks, Johna McFarland
