Announcements from Pastor Mary |
Hello everyone! Happy Labor Day Weekend!
Labor Day celebrates the work that we do for GOOD in so many ways and also remembers that God took time for Sabbath rest. I am planning to spend some time in God's creation for Labor Day, if that is tending to my own yard, playing in or near some water, taking a hike on the mountains, or taking care of my kittens. I hope you can find time this weekend to give God thanks for the work that you are able to do and also for the gift of rest. Here is a good Biblical prayer for Labor Day from Psalm 90: 17: "May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us — yes, establish the work of our hands."
Here are some great things that we are working on in the life of our church:
Next Sunday, September 7th will be our First Responder Sunday! Worship on Sunday, Sept 7th will be a great day honoring the First Responders in our area. We have invited several units from the area and guest speakers. Thin Line Wellness & Recovery LLC will be here to do a mission moment. Our guest preacher will be Rev. Melanie Franklin, Retired Virginia State Police and current pastor from Blue Ridge, VA. We will offer a time of response to the message through Holy Communion with a liturgy written for our worship service and candle lighting for those who have served. Everyone is welcome to take communion or come forward and receive a blessing. We are praying that this will be a meaningful worship service for all.
Also, on Sept 7th our new District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Kyunsuk Cho will be installed at Front Royal UMC in Front Royal. See the details below.
Handbell and Choir Rehearsals start back up this coming week! Wednesday night is our music night! Handbells will meet at 6 PM and Choir is at 7 PM. Both of these groups WELCOME NEW members at any experience level. Let's get together and praise the LORD!
Sunday, September 14th & 21st will will present Bibles to our rising third and fourth graders.
Sunday, September 21st is United Women in Faith Sunday! The worship service will be planned and led by women especially members of our United Women in Faith. We will have guest speaker on this Sunday.
Save the Date and invite a friend on the evening of Sept 21st! We will have a cookout and outdoor concert on the front lawn. We will be serving hot dogs, chips, water & soda, and ice cream. Around 5 PM, Mike Deaton (son of Glenda Deaton), local musician will lead us in an interactive drum circle! Percussion instruments provided. This will be for all ages and abilities. Then around 6 PM, the Nickel Plate Brass Band will perform. This is our "back to college" night. Everyone invited and welcome. Free, donations accepted to help with costs.
See the rest of our E-Blast for GREAT things coming up to praise God and build community.
Blessings, Pastor Mary
Please continue to share the good news that our worship time is at 10 AM. Keep inviting friends & neighbors to Sunday School at 9 AM & joyful, meaningful worship at 10 AM! |

The Prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. ~ James 5: 15-16 |
